Round 1: A message from the Webmaster

Hello all, you may have noticed this fresh off the presses forum site is very different from our last, with a lot of different functionality options.

I’d love for feedback, ideas, thoughts, and whatnot, so we can build out areas to serve our community better.

For this first iteration, I would like us to focus on how we can best organize our War Council Category. Be that subcategories, tags, or other methods, if it feels like it can be easier, cleaner, or nicer to work with then let’s dig into it.

Some things to note:
-Forums can be viewed in browser or Discourse app
-Tags grab anything from any category, and if tags get crazy I can combine them or rename them
-Categories/subcategories can be open to all or a select group
-Subcategories can help us narrow down things, or even show to a select group
-An example of a limited subcategory is “Test Unit” under the “Units” category. While everyone can see it, a category of this type can be limited to a select group, so only members of the unit can view it.

This might bleed into “Round 2” iteration territory, but I wanted to give you a sneak peak into what’s possible.

If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to let me know. It’s going to take a community effort to make this a forum that works for us all and I’ll be learning right alongside you.

I’m struggling with the discoursehub app, it doesn’t seem to have login capabilities and from reading reviews it doesn’t seem to do anything except open the forums in your web browser anyway? This isn’t your fault, and hopefully the devs will make updates to the app to make it worthwhile. We’ve never had an app before anyway, so meh?

Otherwise so far the site has been quite user friendly and intuitive. Will continue to try and poke holes. Great job and thank you!

No worries! I hadn’t downloaded the app but taking a look now it looks like there’s a couple things we can do, but I’m with you on it not being super intuitive and more limited than I would like.

I was able to add the Belegarth forum by clicking the plus button and typing in “forums.belegarth.com” for the site. You’ll see a blue “user” button once it’s loaded, click that. It’ll take you to the browser and it might ask me to approve your app request.

Once the forum is added you’ll be able to see hot topics (which seems to be any categories that have newest topics) and notifications.

It definitely seems better as a tool for a snapshot look of things and being notified when something pops up, but I get notifications from my browser so I agree, wish it had just a biiiiit more substance.
